    The Institute of Super Alloys of School of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University Officially Launched

    On the morning of May 15, 2018, the launch ceremony for the High Temperature Alloy Research Institute of Materials was held in Tonglu Technology Incubation Park. Jin Deshui (Chairman of the Development Committee of Zhejiang University), Ren Shaobo (Executive Vice President), Zhang Ze (Academic of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the Academic Committee), Chen Yunmin (Academic of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor of the School of Architecture and Engineering), Zhu Hua (Secretary of the Tonglu County Party Committee), Professor Han Gaorong (Dean of School of Materials), Liu Yanhui (Secretary of the School Party Committee), Professor Chen Lixin and Professor Wu Yongjun (Deputy Deans of the School of MSE), and other top experts and scholars in the field of super alloys attended the event. Professor Li Jixue, Director of the Institute, presided over the ceremony.

    In 2014, Zhejiang University decided to begin constructing a super alloy research platform. Academic Zhang Ze took the helm in setting up the new institute. Zhejiang University invested more than RMB 36 million to purchase the primary experiment equipment, and the Tonglu government provided and rebuilt nearly 4,000 square meters of laboratory and office space.

    In the future, the Superalloy Research Institute will combine the comprehensive development planning of Zhejiang University and the School of Materials to focus on the major needs of the China Manufacturing 2025 Plan and develop advanced manufacturing for Zhejiang Province in the fields of aerospace, energy, and national defense with a focus on key scientific and technical issues in advanced equipment in hot channel, high temperature material research and development. It will also start super alloy designs and optimization; alloy solidification and precision formulation; composite (powder) design and preparation; additive manufacturing; analysis and characterization of material microstructures; clarification of relationships between the organization, stability, performance, and other factors. The institute is devoted to forming a high-temperature materials science research and development platform with important international influences, including theoretical innovation, result incubation, and talent training.
