2019 ZJU-UM Academic Exchange Program: Cultural Exchanges and Academic Interactions

    Editor: Date:2019-12-16 Hits:4

On December 9, 2019, 42 doctoral students from the School of Materials, led by Pro. Han Gaorong, Li Xiang, Liu Jinfang and Xiang Tingting, visited the University of Macau for academic exchanges. The students and teachers listened to the wonderful academic reports of the Professors of the University of Macau, and the two sides shared the latest scientific research achievements through oral reports and the academic wall exhibition. The Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering of the University of Macau has warmly welcomed us, and the two sides hope to take this opportunity to open up in-depth exchanges in the future and wipe out the spark of scientific research and innovation.

The next morning, the two sides held a University of Macau-Zhejiang University Ph.D. Seminar at the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering of the University of Macau. First of all, Professor Li Zongjin of the University of Macau gave a brief introduction to the development of the University of Macau, showing in particular the development of the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, as well as the construction of disciplines, teaching strength of teachers, and look forward to the future with Zhejiang University to establish more in-depth cooperation. Then Professor Li showed us the team's research on wind power. Through Professor Li, we learned that many of the teachers in the Department of Applied Physics of the University of Macau, including the President of the University of Macau, are from Zhejiang University. Subsequently, Professor Han Gaorong introduced to the University of Macau the historical development of Zhejiang University’s School of Materials Science and Engineering, domestic and foreign rankings, subject construction, the teaching strength of college teachers and other related situations. Finally, President Han Gaorong hoped that Zhejiang University and the University of Macau could carry out all-round and multi-faceted cooperation, which was unanimously endorsed by the teachers and students present.

Then, three professors from the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering of the University of Macau gave us a wonderful academic report: Professor Qu Songnan creatively proposed to use cheap urea and citric acid to prepare carbon nanodots for cancer cells Passive targeting and photothermal therapy; Professor Sun Guoxing uses cement hydration to extract nanoparticles as polymer additives, and the obtained hydrogel can simultaneously achieve high compressive strength, high elongation and high recovery. At the same time, this This kind of nano calcium hydroxide additive can also realize the industrial production of foamed concrete; Professor Guannan Xu is committed to the research of high energy density supercapacitors and has unique insights in the field of pseudo capacitor materials.

After the teachers of the University of Macau introduced their achievements in the exploration and industrialization of materials science, 20 graduate students from our Institute and the University   of Macau respectively conducted academic reports on their research content, which covered many aspects such as energy source materials, information materials and biological materials. Mid-afternoon academic achievements wall newspaper exhibition session more comprehensive display of the two doctoral students research topics and scientific research results, a total of 39 students from both sides participated in the display of their own academic wall newspaper, students on the field of interest actively interact, the spark of innovation in speech communication and thinking collision was stimulated.

After the exchange of scientific research results, we visited the National Key Laboratory for Quality Research of Chinese Medicine at the University of Macau, where the teacher in charge gave us a detailed introduction to the extraction process of the active ingredients of Chinese medicine. Their innovative philosophy for the Chinese medicine health series is to preserve the integrity of the active ingredients of Chinese medicine and the heritage of traditional efficacy. Through the 'whole transport of active ingredients for optimum efficacy'. These advanced preparation techniques and concepts, as well as the emerging Chinese medicine products broaden our horizons, refresh our inherent understanding of Chinese medicine, combine traditional Chinese medicine culture with advanced modern Western science and technology, and make Chinese traditional medicine culture for thousands of years to be better inherited and promoted in the new era.

After that, we visited some of the laboratories of the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering of the University of Macau under the leadership of the staff. Compared with domestic universities, the University of Macau has excellent experimental conditions, spacious and clean laboratories, advanced equipment (e.g. in-place electron mirrors, in-place Raman, in-place XPS, etc.) and students have sufficient time to use these high-end instruments. During the visit, we saw that many students were still doing their experiments seriously and were not affected by us at all. The excellent experimental environment and diligent teachers and students complement each other, making the University of Macau in the decades of rapid rise, fruitful results.

In addition to academic exchanges, we also visited Macau's local history and culture. On the 70th anniversary of the birth of the People's Republic of China, we welcome Macao’s return to the motherland. The delegation visited the Grand Sanba House, the remains of St. Paul's Church in Macau, and the Return Square. Get a first-hand look at Macau's trajectory from hundreds of years ago to the present day. Because of a beautiful misunderstanding, Macau's name is called macau, which is the translation of the word mako; the damaged Big Three Bar tells the story of Macau's past vicissitudes and legends, while the golden lotus flowers that stand on the return square symbolize Macao's prosperity today. Three centuries of ups and downs have left a trail of history in Macao, and after two decades of hard work, this lotus treasure land is in the wind, a stem of fragrance reflects the sun. Before returning to the lotus sculpture in the square, the students also deeply felt the development of the motherland over the past two decades, and deeply blessed our great motherland.

This postgraduate academic and cultural exchange activity further enhances the friendship between the Institute of Materials and the University of Macau and lays the foundation for broader and deeper scientific cooperation between the two universities in the future. Visit the local historical and cultural buildings of Macao, let us feel the changes before and after the return of Macao, but also the future development of Macao has a vision. In the process of scientific research and exchange with the university of Macau, the students not only opened their horizons and enhanced their ability to communicate and express them, but also through academic exchanges, expanding scientific research thinking, and novating. Students in their field of study will do more high-quality work, to create a world-class university and world-class materials disciplines to contribute. At the same time, we also look forward to the two schools in the discipline construction and academic exchanges to carry out more cooperation, hand in hand, bravely climb the peak of materials science!
